Fall 2021 Programs and Courses at The Rosenbach

For Release: Immediately

September 13, 2021— This season, The Rosenbach is hosting a series of in-person and online programs and courses inspired by our collections.

This season’s series of reading courses begins on September 14 with a SOLD OUT offering, The Curator’s Toolkit: Up Close and Personal with The Rosenbach Collections. This brand-new course is taught by The Rosenbach’s Collections Department and students will learn the skills for studying, handling, and preserving the fine art, antiques, rare books, and manuscripts in our collection. The Rosenbach’s reading courses are led by a literary expert and cover fiction, history, poetry, and more.  Also offered this fall are a series of online courses that cover the works of Octavia E. Butler, Dante’s Inferno, Thomas Mann’s Doctor Faustus, James Joyce’s Ulysses, Bram Stoker’s Dracula, and two special courses The Lives of Early American Women with Kalela Williams and Soulful Foodways: African American and Culinary History with Psyche Williams-Forson and Kelsey Scouten Bates. Full details are available at rosenbach.org/courses.

Also coming up this season:

  • The Rosenbach’s successful Sundays With… web series continues with Sundays with Jane Eyre. Starting on September 19, over 30 weeks we’ll examine why Charlotte Brontë’s novel Jane Eyre remains such a fascinating book to read, study, and enjoy.

  • Our literary-themed cocktail parties return after an 18-month hiatus with Bibliococktails in the Garden on September 23 and Drinking with Dickens December 1.

  • The Rosenbach’s signature Behind the Bookcase tours continue with unparalleled access to see, and even touch, rare and important items not usually accessible to the public. This fall: The Artistry and Industry of Bookmaking on October 14, Dracula: The Enduring Monster on October 28, The Man, the Myth, the Library: Meet Dr. Rosenbach on November 18, and Friendship and Charity on December 9.

  • In Conversation with The Rosenbach, our signature lecture series, continues online and in-person this fall. We’re kicking off the season with In Conversation with Sandra Gilbert and Susan Gubar, the authors of Still Mad: American Women Writers and the Feminist Imagination on September 29.

Advance registration is recommended for all programs. Visit rosenbach.org/events or call 215-732-1600. Just announced: all visitors and program attendees must show proof of vaccination along with The Rosenbach’s staff members and volunteers. With limited space for social distancing in our historic house and library, requiring proof of vaccination is the best way to protect the health and safety of our visitors and staff. Full details are available at rosenbach.org/visit.

Later this Fall, The Rosenbach presents a new exhibition opening on November 21, Medium & Message: The Book Art of Colette Fu and Lothar Meggendorfer, and is launching The Rosenbach Podcast on December 1. Stay tuned for more information on these exciting developments!

Amber Manning

I founded AmberCo. when I was five years old. Over the years, it has offered a variety of services from house cleaning, babysitting, car washing, travel planning, interior design and more. After college, I serendipitously fell into working for a web development company and I never looked back. I am happy that AmberCo. has finally settled on a mission that helps people in a meaningful way. I am also happy that some of the original services AmberCo. offered (cleaning and organizing) have carried through into its current iteration. I have been lucky enough to work for significant nonprofits such as the Sierra Club and the International Committee of the Red Cross and small local companies such as Hinkel Equipment Rental and Indars Stairs. My favorite part of working in technology is finding creative solutions for people and making their day to day work easier.
